Kay's freezer door sticker using the iconic Kay's sign 3-D ice cream cone.I developed this campaign...
...during my four month freelance stint at The Tombras Group. Its a great example of retro branding. Food City acquired the rights to several regional brands and now sell various products under these trademarks as exclusive in-store brands. The Kern's, Kay's, Terry's and Lay's brands have nostalgic value to consumers in the south because they grew up with them. The campaign consisted of aisle headers. shelve talkers, channel strips and freezer door stickers. I created the vector art in Illustrator and then effected it Photoshop with third party and built in filters. I also designed the headline type face specifically for this project.

You know, my ideas help them sell lots more stuff than they were before. Pretty simple, huh?

The lack of time is the only valid reason for for not coming up with ideas that sell stuff. Any other "reason" for not coming up with ideas that sell stuff is a very badly conceived excuse. Which is just about what you'd expect from a bunch of people who can't come up with ideas that sell stuff.

Writing dialogue for a talking dog is a fun way to kill an afternoon, but only if it ends up selling the client’s stuff.

I quietly refused. I soon set out for a place that still wanted ideas that sold stuff.

Soon the new CD got wind of what they thought, they didn't last much longer. I wasn't too upset to see them go because I got to come up with ideas that sold stuff for their clients.
- Jan 1988 - Dec 1989SR. Art Director / Cole & WeberI came up with ideas for the agency's clients that sold stuff. I also showed some jr. creatives how to come up with ideas that sold stuff. Some of the better ones are still coming up with ideas that sell stuff to this very day. A few of them are just coming up with ideas. But they don't sell much stuff.
- Jan 1986 - Dec 1987Art Director / BozellI was hired to come up with ideas for the agency's clients that sold stuff. The people who were already there coming up with ideas that sold stuff had much better ideas than mine. That wouldn't do. I worked long hours until my ideas that sold stuff were just a good as good as theirs. So they decided to let me stay. For the first time, some national ad organizations gave a few of my ideas that sold stuff some fancy pieces of metal, not because they sold stuff, they just thought they were clever.
